ORNAA Education Funding Eligibility Criteria for District Members

  1. To apply for funding, applicants must have been an active member of ORNAA for a minimum of ONE year prior to funding application.
  2. It is the member’s responsibility to clarify any questions regarding application.
  3. Funding will only be approved for conferences, workshops, seminars or non-credit courses, which are related to perioperative nursing practice. Non-credit courses refer to those courses NOT included in the Bursary and Special Education Funding Guidelines.
  4. In the previous fiscal year, the applicant must have attended at least TWO(2) district and/or dinner meetings or ONE(1) meeting and/or Provincial or National OR Conference. The exception are those members living a distance of more than 200 kilometers (or less as determined by each district) away from their major centers who would be eligible having attended a minimum of ONE(1) ORNAA education session, conference or teleconference in the previous fiscal year.
  5. It is the member’s responsibility to insure their attendance is verified, eg: signing attendance book and/or retaining certificate of attendance.
  6. An eligible member may apply for 75% of costs incurred to attend a conference, workshop, seminar, or non-credit course, to a maximum of $500 annually or an amount determined by the District Executive.
  7. Members may apply to alternate sources for funding, however, total funding cannot exceed 100%.
  8. ORNAA recommends to districts that monies to members not be granted until completion of the conference, workshop, and non-credit course/seminar, submission of original receipts and article and/or verification of formal presentation. In extenuating circumstances however, this will be left up to the discretion of the district executive.
  9. If the conference, workshop/seminar, non-credit course is located in the same city where the member resides, only registration and conference social events as listed in the conference program will be considered. Accommodation and travel expenses will be considered for out of town events. Accommodation is based on double occupancy, and may include equivalent nights as number of conference days plus one (depending on location/distance/travel limitations). Travel expenses including gas, airfare, bus fare, ground transportation (to/from airport/bus depot to hotel destinations for conferences only) at the discretion of the District Executive.
  10. Each member receiving funding from the district must submit a written article (to the district treasurer) or do a minimum 20-minute formal presentation to their practice setting (verification by clinical educator/designate must be submitted to district treasurer).
  11. Topic/subject for written article or verbal presentation can be original or can be a review/summary from the conference/workshop/seminar attended.
  12. Members have THREE (3) months to complete the article and/or presentation.
